Perceptual scales

Each family has 12 roles in separate light and dark scales. Hue stays fixed; chroma is reduced at constant lightness when needed to fit sRGB. Hex comes first in CSS; supporting browsers use OKLCH.

Implementation notes

System follows the device colour scheme. An explicit choice takes priority; Windows forced colours always map to system colours.
The theme and accent are applied in the head before CSS paint. Initial rendering has no colour transition. Visitor-initiated changes use 150ms colour transitions unless reduced motion is requested.
Only accent roles change with the accent selection. Surfaces, status colours, syntax and graph lanes stay fixed; links and focus derive from accent aliases.
Scale inspection swatches are the deliberate exception to the no-primitives-in-components rule: they show the primitive being documented. Product components use semantic roles only.
APCA is computed offline during the audit. No calculator or tracking library is shipped to visitors.
Performance and full assistive-technology results from the previous audit remain unmeasured; token contrast is not a complete accessibility certification.
